We are producing new radio receivers for the 46m dish at the Algonquin Radio Observatory, located a few hours drive north of Toronto. These allow the telescope to detect different frequencies (color) of radio light, allowing researchers to study a range of astrophysical phenomena.
A functional receiver system will be completed, tested in a laboratory setting, and deployed to the ARO. Observations on sky will be used to establish system performance, and a brief report should be assembled detailing the system.
Physics or electrical engineering, requires high calibre students (GPA >= B). Basic electronics, soldering. Linux computing.
