The student will be working on a project with the Faculty of Forestry to study the level of phosphorus in discharge from green roof growing media that it amended with biochar.
Students will collect water samples once a week and test for total phosphorus. From this work we will determine if biochar-amendments reduce the release of phosphorus in stormwater discharge from green roofs. Student will have to complete WHIMS and will work with small amounts of chemicals in a lab environment.
Student must work well independently. Lab experience is a plus (but not necessary). 3rd or 4th year with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
